A Lil Extra

Happy Birthday

Today is my birthday! And somehow in the whirlwind that has been the last few weeks, my blog has also had a birthday. Lately I have been reflecting on my intentions with this blog and the direction I want to go in the future.

I am so proud of the progress I have made with this blog and my writing. I’ve never written so consistently ever. I am proud of how much I have grown in my ability as a writer. I have gotten over the fear of sharing my work with the world. I feel like I have truly found my voice.

There are lots of things I have learned have a blog for a first(ish) time. I learned a lot about being consistent and different ways to share my work with others. Above all, I learned ways to build community and this has become my main priority.

I really love books and reading. I have loved sharing my reads with you all and how they made me feel. But as I have said before, I am not the greatest at giving formal book reviews. I feel like I have outgrown talking about books. I want to continue having meaningful conversations with people and building community, but without the context of talking about what I’m reading (it’s also exhausting trying to keep up with making post based on every book I read).

That being said, I want to create a more general space I can talk about issues that are important to me and sparking critical dialogue and reflection. I really enjoy talking about racism, feminism, and other issues based on identities I experience either privilege or oppression. We are all here to grow and learn and expanding my focus is a part of my growth process.

I hope to continue talking about books in a smaller capacity on my Instagram page (that name might change soon, but you can find the link to it on the side). I feel like that is an easier platform for me to engage in conversation with others, so check me out there.

Twenty-five has been a wild ride. Having my phone dropped in the river definitely set the precedent for the year ahead. I had to do a lot of going with the flow, especially in these last few months. I am grateful for all of the lessons I have learned, especially the ones I have learned from this blog.

I am wondering what is in store for me in my 26th year. I hope it is a year I keep learning about writing, the world, and myself. I hope it is a year of being in community with both the people I love and with people I don’t know. I hope this year, and every year to come, is one of growth and love.

I am grateful to all of you for coming with me on this ride. I will keep posting, but not as much about books. I hope you all continue to stay with me through this next year and whatever else the future holds.

Much love!
